Today I wanted to share with you a simple tutorial in the honor of the Rainbow theme week that we had on the Pretty Pink Posh blog last week! Using a rainbow theme is one of a simple ways we can send a cheerful message to our friends and loved ones.
To begin my card, I first use a cloud template (any cloud dies you have will do) I simply die-cut a cloud on a piece of white cardstock. I distressed the white card base using Distress Ink from Ranger.
Next, I distressed different pieces of white cardstock using Distress inks and die-cut each one using the Mini Tags die set.
For the bottom of my card base, I also distressed and splatter it with water using my watercolor brush for interest.
Next, assembly time! You can use almost any kind of die-cut letters you have, or you can substitute them for stickers or alphabet dies. The cute birdie is from an all-time favorite, the Birdie Notes mini stamp set.
Did you see that we have a Rainbow challenge happening on the blog? This is the perfect time to pull out your rainbow colored products and share it with us.
I hope you guys enjoyed, thank you so much for stopping by! Have a wonderful week!
Hello, Pretty Pink Posh fans! This is Yana and I have a Get Well card with a DIY rainbow die cut background to share today.
I love to create unique and one of a kind backgrounds for my cards and I find dies to be great tools for this task. Today I’m inviting you to use one of the Pretty Pink Posh border dies to create a rainbow background.
To minimize the use of supplies (such as watercolor paper) and time I first cut a rectangle out of watercolor paper (I knew I wanted to use distress inks and add a lot of water, so I needed my paper to be able to absort water and not warp) and using a border die from the Stitched Borders 1 set cut the panel into 8 curved sections.
The number of sections was not random, I knew I wanted to have a background that resembled a rainbow, so I needed to make sure to have 7 die cut elements, the 8th one, the one on the bottom was discarded as I planned to have a bit of white space on the base of the card. If you don’t want any white space and would rather have the rainbow cover the entire card front, go with 7 sections.
The next step is all about adding color to the die cut pieces. There are a number of ways this can be done depending on the look you’d like to get. I went with Distress inks (the colors I used are: Worn Lipstick, Picked Raspberry, Ripe Persimmon, Wild Honey, Crushed Olive, Peacock Feathers and Seedless Preserves). You can also use watercolors, alcohol markers, ink pads or even die cut individual sections out of colored cardstock.
After blending each color rather heavily onto the paper, I added lots of water drops to activate Distress inks and create beautiful effects on my background. I worked in layers – added a first layer of drops, let the water sit on the paper for about a minute, soaked up extra water with a rag, dried the paper with my heat tool and repeated the process a few more times to get the look I wanted.
Tip: You can also heat emboss outline images onto the die background in white embossing powder to add some additional texture (do so before blending ink or watercoloring to save time).
Once I was happy with the result I adhered my die cut panels onto a white cardstock panel using a tape runner and that finished the background for my card. You can also adhere these directly to the card base.
To embellish this project I first stamped and die cut an umbrella from the Rainy Days stamp set, it was a perfect match to go with my rainbow. Because the rainbow background ended up being vibrant I needed to create some sort of screen to mute a part of it and to also house the umbrella and the sentiment.
I used the smaller circle die from the Scallop Circles Die set and die cut it out of white cardstock to serve as a frame, the inner section was die cut out of vellum to serve as screen. To be able to adhere these together and to adhere onto the card (and make sure the adhesive would not be visible from under the vellum) I also die cut two clouds using dies from the Rainy Days Coordinating Die set. I did not stamp the clouds, but only used the dies on their own as I feel stamping wasn’t necessary here, these clouds have a perfect shape.
I adhered both of the clouds onto the scalloped circle and this way was able to attach the vellum to the frame. The clouds also let me hide the adhesive to adhere vellum to the background.
Lastly, I heat embossed a Get Well Soon sentiment in white embossing powder over black cardstock for a pop of contrast, adhered it onto the umbrella and foam mounted the latter over the cloud cluster. I also added a little branch from the Holiday Pals stamp set stamped in light pink ink and embellished the card with my favorite clear sequins and small Clear Droplets(I adhered those over the largest sequins).
Heather here to share another duo of cards – this time I thought it would be fun to use one stamp set two ways to make a card for a friend who was feeling down! I don’t know about you, but sometimes I want someone to just come cry alongside me and that makes me feel better, and sometimes I need someone to make me laugh and forget my troubles. Each of these cards fills one of those needs!
For these cards I used the polka dot umbrella from the Rainy Days stamp set – I love how versatile this set is! And those little faces are the perfect touch!
I first stamped the deeper “Smoke” gray color, then added the pink ones using “Pale Blush Pink” ink.
Then I came in with the “Fog” ink and filled in pretty much all the open white space – I wanted to create a backdrop of umbrellas in soft muted tones.
I stamped one bold black umbrella and my sentiment with Versafine Pigment ink – makes it super crisp and black, plus it sits right on top of the other inks so it stays bold and black.
Finally, I came in and added the little sad faces – I used black ink to stamp on the deeper gray umbrellas, and the deeper gray to stamp on the pink ones – leaving the pale gray umbrellas plain so it wasn’t overwhelming.
Then I moved on to the rainbow umbrellas! Here are the inks I chose to use – perfect ROYGBV!
Particularly when using the bold colors – make sure and clean your stamp really well so the colors stay crisp and true! I’m really loving the Lawn Fawn Stamp Shammy these days – it does a beautiful job cleaning the stamps – as you can see in the photo below, it is VERY well loved! :)
Once I stamped all my random umbrellas, I added my sentiment in black ink, the umbrella handles with the deeper gray ink, and the raindrops to fill in the holes using the softer gray ink.
I added a scallop in black around the panels just to help it pop, then chose a gray card base for the softer color one, and a pale blue card base for the bright rainbow one.
And an umbrella card has to have a few Clear Droplets, don’t you think? I love to use a tiny dot of Glossy Accents to attach them – it holds them super well! I love how you can see through the droplets to the images underneath – just like a real droplet of water!
And here’s a closer look at each of the cards:
Would love to hear which one of these you would love to receive if you were feeling down! Or like me, does it depend on the time?
We wanted to have a giveaway in this post so you could receive this super fun stamp set and the coordinating dies, along with our popular Clear Droplets! All you have to do is leave a comment sharing the last time you mailed out a card!
Hello there everyone! It’s Nina-Marie here with you today and I have a fun set of shaker cards to share with you that feature not only a bunch of Pretty Pink Posh’s fabulous new iridescent 4mm sequins, but ALSO all four of the Storybook dies in the Storybook collection! Oh and did I mention that the shaker cards I am creating are RAINBOW shaker cards????
I love making shaker cards and the Storybook dies from Pretty Pink Posh are SO perfect for making cute little shakers! My favorite from the Storybook collection is the new Storybook 4 die; I love all the tiny squares! I actually used this die in another video not too long ago to create a “peek-a-boo” card… you might want to check out after you’ve finished up this post; you can find it on the Pretty Pink Posh blog here.
And since I was turning these Storybook dies into shakers, I thought this would be a perfect way to showcase the GORGEOUS new iridescent sequin colors! So I used a rainbow assortment (literally!) of 4mm and 6mm sequins to create my shakers. The colors I used are as follows:
Yes, I know that’s a lot of sequins, but the result is SO worth it! Be sure to check out the video below to see how I created this card set from start to finish! If you enjoy, please give the video a big thumbs up and subscribe to our channel for more inspiration!
Today we have a special post that Liz put together showing how to create a focal point that stands out. Plus, she’ll be using a “Christmas” set and show us how we can use it year round!
This card was fun to make and best of all, the steps are easy so you can make several cards to send out to family and friends.
Take any A2 size card stock or designer paper and lay down flat. Then, place a circle die and rectangle die on top and run through the die cut machine. Here, I used a 2 5/8″ circle die as I wanted to add the smaller Scallop Circle from Pretty Pink Posh on top to add a decorate look.
Here is a picture after I ran it through the die cut machine, but still wanted to add some extra touches.
Next, I flipped the cardstock upside down and added white fun foam to pop the card base up. It doesn’t have to be fun foam. You can use foam mount tape instead.
Next step, I added the Scallop Circles directly on top of the circle opening that was previously cut. Here, I used the smaller scallop circle.
From there, I wanted to add a sentiment, so I die cut the mini scallop border using the Stitched Borders 4 as it’s one of my favorites and then cut a 3/8″ black strip to place on top and in the middle of the white border.
Here, I pulled out the Birdie Fiends stamp set as it has a wonderful variety of sentiments and love the font style which I embossed using versa mark and white embossing powder. Then, I stamped the little envelope and little heart from the Birdie Notes set to add next to the sentiment.
Now moving on to the focal point of the card, I pulled out the Winter Friends stamp set, again, it’s not just for winter and can be used all year round, so I stamped the little coffee mug along with the little bear. Then, I colored it using my copic markers and added foam mount tape to pop them up along with one more little envelope stamped with the little heart.
Last but not least, I added some beautiful new 4mm Rose Gold sequins along the inside of the circle and alternated it with some 4mm clear sequins
I love the rainbow background that Liz paired with her focal point. It really makes the card stand out and those 4mm sequins do a perfect job highlighting the adorable bear in mug!
Stay tuned to the blog… I heard there might be a sale in honor of Memorial Day happening soon!
Hello Everyone, Joni here sharing another project creating a soft watercolor background. For this project I used The cute stamp set Holiday Pals, Window Frames dies and for the sentiment I used the Birdie Friends stamp set.
To begin, I first stamped the critters from the Holiday Pals stamp set then watercolor directly from the brush to the watercolor paper, I picked the lightest color from the set of the ZIG Color Clear Brush.
After coloring the critters, I then colored more of the background using the RB-6000AT, this is really a gorgeous gray.
Next, I set up the pieces to assemble my card. For the Window Frames I die-cut a pieces using the paper cardstock from Michaels. Next, I stamped the sentiment from Birdie Friends stamp set. Then adhered some sequins from the Sweet Pea Sequins Mix.
This technique would be great for any occasion and you can customize it to fit the recipient!
I hope you guys enjoyed, thank you so much for stopping by! Have a wonderful week!
Heather here to review something new and fun that I saw recently and wanted to know more about – Gansai Tambai Starry Night watercolors! These have been something I have heard a lot about, but also haven’t seen much on how to use them, so I thought I would share my findings with you, and a couple cards using them!
Here is a video I filmed testing them out. I first tried them on plain old 110 lb black cardstock and watercolor paper – but then moved on to testing them OVER the TOP of another watercolor wash in a few deeper colors, and then over some 110 lb white cardstock with some distress inks applied. It was fun seeing how they worked in each application – and this helped me get some ideas of how to use them more in the future!
At the end of the video, I created a couple of watercolor brushed backgrounds – then decided I ought to use them on a card, right? :)
I put together some little umbrella’s by heat embossing the top of the umbrella’s from Rainy Days stamp set in white on vellum, then die cutting them as well as the rest of the pieces from gold cardstock using the coordinating Rainy Days Dies. I carefully glued them together with a bit of sturdy glue and let them dry.
I did some heat embossed sentiments on a strip of black cardstock and vellum, then attached them, and the umbrella’s to my background.
Once the cards were together, I decided something was still missing, so I added some small Scallop circles and a few Sparkling Clear sequins to finish them off! Here is a closer look at each of them – and that black one was HARD to photograph!
Thanks for stopping by! Would love to hear your thoughts on these watercolors! Are they something you would use? Or like to try?
This is Yana and I’m excited to share a simple card tutorial today. I love to create cards that incorporate both a bit of stamping and a little bit of die cutting. When it comes to die cutting, I enjoy using various mediums, not just paper. For the card I’m sharing today I’m using canvas; it adds a nice texture to the background and makes my project pop.
Canvas can be difficult to die cut and you won’t be able to die cut it like paper, detailed intricate shapes most likely will not cut, but it doesn’t mean you can’t use canvas for simple shapes like rectangles or circles.
I find I’m able to get best results when die cutting canvas when I have an additional layer with it when I send it through my die cutting machine. Simply adding a layer of paper or cardstock can help a great deal, however you will still have a few uncut fibers you’ll have to trim with your scissors.
To create the card I’m sharing in this blog post begin by adhering a sheet of Scrapbook Adhesives Adhesive to the back of your canvas. This will make it easier to cut it and it will allow us to adhere our canvas onto a cardstock panel to make it sturdy. If you don’t have Adhesive Sheets from Scrapbook Adhesives you can also use Stick It from Ken Oliver or any other thin double sided adhesive in sheets or tape.
Once you’ve adhered it go ahead and die cut your canvas using a rectangle die from the Stitched Duo 2 set. You’ll also need to die cut an identical panel out of white cardstock and make it slightly smaller (about ⅛ smaller on each side). Alternatively, you can cut the panel using your paper trimmer, it doesn’t matter, you don’t need to faux stitching on it.
Once you have both of these cut go ahead and adhere canvas onto cardstock. Because the cardstock panel is slightly smaller it should remain invisible from the side.
Because our canvas is a lot more sturdy now go ahead and foam mount it onto a card base. I love to use foam adhesive as it helps me to add dimension to my cards and I also believe it helps the die cuts to stand out. I used woodgrain textured cardstock to create a base for my card, but plain white card should also work great.
We will also need to create a frame for our project so go ahead and die cut the smaller circle from the Scallop Circle Dies set 3 or 4 times out of white cardstock. You can die cut more layers if you want the final piece to be thicker. Use glue, I used Multi Medium in Matte and adhere the layers together to create one thick dimensional element.
To finish this card you’ll need to stamp, color and die cut an adorable little owl (or any other cute creature) from the Holiday Pals stamp set, heat emboss a You’re The Best sentiment in white embossing powder onto black cardstock and also die cut several hearts using a tiny heart die from the Mini Tags Die set.
Adhere the elements onto a yellow canvas rectangle, foam mount the sentiment and the tag and embellish your card using a few 6mm sunshine glow sequins.
I die cut the branch and leaves from Birdie Friends Coordinating dies on watercolor paper and then I paint with watercolor. The curtains are made using Stitched Borders 4 die cuts.
Heather here to share another duo of cards – this time using the GORGEOUS new Rose Gold sequins (SOOOO pretty!!!) and the newest addition to the line of Storybook dies – Storybook 4 – all paired up with a couple older stamp and die sets!
I started off by choosing a couple pattern papers, die cutting my Storybook dies from white cardstock, then trimming the sides down with my paper trimmer. I then used the Scallop Frame dies, and the negative center piece die cut out of vellum – this will provide the backer to the shaker portion.
Added an acetate window, then trimmed down strips of foam adhesive to form the portion that will be filled with sequins. Don’t remove the backing to the foam adhesive yet though!
The little birdie from Birdie Notes stamp set was stamped, colored with Copics to match the color schemes, and then die cut with the coordinating Birdie Notes Dies.
Next, I filled up my shaker windows with a mix of 4mm and 6mm Rose Gold sequins – normally I put my sequins on the backing of my shaker, but since I was using semi-transparent vellum, I filled the window portion – then I could still see through the vellum enough to make sure I was adhering it on squarely.
These were really fun to pick up and shake around at this point too by the way! Felt like a little rhythm instrument! :) Anyway, a bit of good adhesive hid around the outside edges easily attached it at this point to my pattern paper for my card front.
Finished off by attaching the sentiment and birdie to each card.
Here is a closer look at those lovely new sequins and that die! Aren’t they a perfect match?!?!?
