Happy Birthday Kelly Marie!

KellyMarieBlogHop

The stamping and blogging company is filled with so many wonderful, kind, thoughtful and talented people. I have had the incredible pleasure of working with many of them and one of the SWEETEST people is Kelly Marie Alvarez, one of the owners and the bubbly voice behind the Lawn Fawn videos.

TODAY is Kelly Marie’s birthday and the Lawn Fawn DT, fellow Lawn Fawn fanatics and some of her close crafty friends have put together a surprise blog hop for her. She has made such an impact in our lives and brought so much joy from her company, we wanted to let her know how much she means to all of us.

If you started the hop from the beginning, you should be coming from my sweet friend, Lynnette Kauffman’s blog! If you just joined the hop, or get lost along the way, head over to the master list on Tiffany’s blog– she’s the amazing gal who coordinated this big surprise hop!

prettypinkposh_happybirthdaykellymarie1

In the hopes to spark some creativity for this special card, I pulled out all of my Lawn Fawn sets {which I thought was larger, but apparently not. I must remedy this soon!} and used Into the Woods, Summertime Charm and Admit One on today’s card. I recently received the new Into the Woods paper pack and they worked out perfectly for paper piecing my balloons. How fun would it be to have real balloons in these patterns?!

prettypinkposh_happybirthdaykellymarie2

I know you’re ready to move on to the next stop- head on over to Elise Constable’s blog!

Thanks for spending some time with me today. If you’re on Facebook or Twitter, be sure to wish Kelly Marie a very special birthday wish. :)

Gameday Snack Mix Bars!

Bars_1Football season is finally here! I am so, so excited about this. You can bet that each weekend from now until the Superbowl, I’ll be watching as many games as I can. Friends, family, football, and yummy food makes for an awesome weekend!

This past weekend was no different! We rang in the start of this glorious season with a viewing party, and of course, I had to bring treats! I think you will LOVE these Gameday Snack Mix Bars!

With only 6 ingredients and 10 minutes needed to whip these up, you won’t even believe it! These bars combine everything I love (and I hope you do too) – sweet, salty, crunchy, and gooey, plus peanut butter and chocolate deliciousness. YUM!

I have been making these bars for years (thanks to my mom’s recipe from my childhood) and every time I make them, they are a HUGE hit. Be prepared to hand out the recipe, because everyone will be asking! :)

They are perfect for lunchbox treats, after school snacks, party treats, or even favors. If I bring them to a party, I like to package them in a clear cellophane bag and tie with a coordinating ribbon. To increase the cuteness factor, simply switch out regular M&Ms for whatever M&Ms are in season. For example, I used the “Touchdown Mix” M&Ms in these Gameday bars!Bars_4

Gameday Snack Mix Bars!
Recipe Type: Dessert
Prep time: 10 mins
Total time: 10 mins
Serves: 12-20
Ingredients
  • 2 c. corn Chex
  • 2 1/2 c. halved pretzel sticks
  • 1 1/2 {or 2} c. M&Ms {if you want more chocolate goodness, use 2 cups}
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1/3 c. peanut butter
  • 5 c. {10.5 oz. bag} mini marshmallows
Instructions
  1. Prepare a 9×13 pan using Pam spray.
  2. In a large bowl, combine M&Ms, halved pretzels, and Chex.
  3. In a microwave safe bowl, melt butter and peanut butter.
  4. Once melted, add mini marshmallows and coat thoroughly.
  5. Return to microwave and heat until marshmallows are melted and well-combined with butter/peanut butter mixture. {Be sure you stir frequently!!}
  6. Once marshmallow mixture is smooth, pour into dry ingredient mixture.
  7. Combine everything and pour into greased pan.
  8. Cover pan, and let bars harden. For faster cooling, place in refrigerator for 1 hour, or until they are able to be cut into pieces.
  9. Cut pan of bars into individual pieces, and wrap each piece in plastic wrap. This way, they’re individually ready to eat, and can easily be transported anywhere! This also keeps them fresh longer.
  10. Enjoy!
Notes
You can also heat marshmallow mixture on stove. Substitute holiday M&Ms when appropriate to change up the theme!

I hope you enjoy these as much as my family and I do! Go team!

*Note: 1- For the gluten free version of these bars, substitute regular pretzels for gluten free pretzels. 2- This recipe yields 12-20 bars depending on how big you cut them!

Krazy for Kraft Blog Hop

As I sit typing up this post, I have a delicious smelling Pumpkin Pecan Waffles candle lit nearby. Ah, this scent is so yummy smelling and is definitely putting me in the mood for all sorts of festive projects. I just picked up some Halloween papers and candy corn, along with some fall inspired inks….I hope you all are prepared for a change in the seasons here on the blog!

Today is the DeNami Blog Hop and this month the theme is Krazy for Kraft. {Can you tell I’m a fan of alliterations?} If you started the hop from the beginning, you should be coming from Stacy’s blog. This gal is so sweet and talented- I’m sure she had something wonderful to share!

I am such a sucker for kraft…it’s hard for me not to use it on a project! I had no clue the direction I wanted to go for my post, so I randomly just pulled out a few fall stamps and built a card from there. Thankfully, it turned out okay!

prettypinkposh_kraft1a

Did you notice that awesome woodgrain embossed background? DeNami just started carrying 111 different embossing folders on the website and there are a few that I would say are definitely MUST HAVES. They are so easy to use and they can be the perfect touch to your projects, without being too much. Also, they are inexpensive, so that’s another plus!

prettypinkposh_kraft1b

You have one more stop left in this hop- head on over to Emily Keaton’s blog! Be sure to leave comments on each blog stop. DeNami is giving away gift certificates to two random comments, so you won’t want to pass up the chance at a mini shopping spree!

Thank you for spending some time with me today. Have a wonderful rest of your Sunday!

Ask Paulina….

ask_september

It’s the first Monday of the month and usually I have a Featured Blogger post to share. I decided to change it up this month and am doing my very first Ask Paulina feature! I receive numerous questions via my blog, email and social media sites and I thought today would be a great time to round-up the most asked questions and also give you the opportunity to ask new questions.

bloggingquestions

Question #1- Do you have tips to increase blog traffic?

You can go about increasing your blog traffic in several different ways. What has worked for me? In my first few years of blogging, I perused blogs on a daily basis and left comments constantly. This allowed me to see how others went about blogging, but it also got my name out there and this built friendships/ connections with the blogger and they would visit my blog. In addition to that, I used to participate in craft challenges often and that brought in new traffic. A huge part of blogging is being consistent and also your content. I did a series a while back called Blogging 101 that was very popular and provided new bloggers with a variety of tips.

Question #2- How long have you been blogging?

I did my very first post on October 6, 2008, so I’m almost to five years. The time has flown by!

Question #3- Do you keep a blog schedule?

Yes, I do. It’s the Type A/ organized side of me that NEEDS to have one. This helps me keep track of what posts I have done, what posts I want to do in the future and also helps me make sure I stay on top of the 10 Minute Craft Dash challenges and sponsors. I purchased mine at Target {now is a great time to get one since they have big ones for back to school} and I love it to pieces. If you are serious about blogging, this is the best $14 you can spend!

Question #4- Why did you switch from an all craft blog to one that is more personal?

This decision was one that I struggled with and didn’t take lightly. I had originally done it since my passion for crafting had diminished a bit and I wasn’t spending as much time in my studio. I still loved interacting with my readers and after putting out “feelers” on whether people would still visit and read my blog if I switched it up, I took the plunge. I had contemplated just starting another blog, but with all the effort I had put into this blog {and the fact that I had two other blogs running}, I wasn’t particularly fond of starting a new one. Thankfully, my readers are very similar to me and like hearing about the person behind the blog, so I only saw a slight decrease when I made the switch. Now my site is a place that truly encapsulates who I am and what I love. :)

Question #5- What inspires you when coming up with blog topics?

Honestly, I have so many ideas in this brain of mine, I have to filter out what topics to bring to my site. When I write my heartfelt/ more personal posts, those topics are the things that have been on my mind recently. While these posts are super vulnerable and can sometimes bring criticism, I also love being able to share my heart with my readers and allowing them to get to know me. It’s in these posts that I receive email after email with stories on how that post touched someone’s life, people sharing their stories or asking for prayers.

In regards to features like the Featured Blogger, Random Loves, On the Wish List, etc… these are once again things that I personally would want to read about from my favorite blogger. When it came to my Blogging 101 series, that came out of pouring out hours on my blog and wanting to share information with those who wanted to take their site to the next level. Down the road, if readers had suggestions or requests for a series, I would take that into consideration. After all, I want to bring things YOU all would want to read. However, it would also have to be something I feel like I have a would be able to achieve and showcase to my readers well.

Question #6- How did you decide on naming your site Pretty Pink Posh?

Ah, the million dollar question! When you sign up for a blog, you are required to come up with a name for your blog. I didn’t want to use my name and after trying out numerous options and seeing them already taken, I decided to take three words and combine them together. I love pretty things, the color pink and anything posh. Put them altogether and you have Pretty Pink Posh!

craftingquestions

Question #1- What is your favorite type and brand of ink and why?

My all-time favorite black ink is Onyx Black Versafine. It gives such a crisp image and dries quickly. The only downside? You can’t use it with Copics. For colored inks I am loving my Hero Arts shadow inks and also Memento inks. They both have a great assortment of vibrant and light colors, work well for clear and rubber stamps and dry quickly.

Question #2- What’s the deal with HA shadow inks? Are the lighter than others? Dry quicker? Do they work on photos? What makes them different?

Some of this question is answered above. I’m actually not sure if they work on photos- I don’t believe they do since they’re kind of a slicker ink. I like the fact that they have a lot of “in” colors that work together beautifully and the colors are so saturated.

Question #3- Do you like clear, cling or wood stamps?

I have all three in my collection of stamps, however, I prefer clear or wood mounted stamps. I grew up using wood stamps, so I typically don’t have a problem lining them up. I like clear stamps since they’re super easy to store, line up and love that so many designs can come together in one set. However, if I loved a design enough, I would buy it any way it came!

Question #4- Will you ever do a craft room tour?

When I got my new studio 1 1/2 years ago, I had intended to do one. Shortly after, my grandfather passed away and then I had my accident that turned my life upside down. My studio is nowhere where I want it to be organizationally, or aesthetically, so there currently aren’t plans to do one. Honestly, if you saw it, you would probably be sorely unimpressed with how plain jane it is.

Question #5- How often do you create new projects?

The answer varies every week. Back when I was in my groove and my health wasn’t an issue, I would craft just about every night for several hours and then also on the weekend. Nowadays, I’m lucky if I can sneak in 3-4 hours a week. Hopefully, this will change once my health starts improving and I regain strength and energy. I have so many new supplies calling my name and I know the blog is in desperate need of some new projects!

personalquestions

Question #1- Not sure how to ask this without sounding creepy, lol! You are such a lovely, pretty woman and I am wondering what your ethnic makeup is, if you are comfortable answering.

Oh my, this was an unexpected question! I’m 1/4 Korean and 3/4 Japanese. Do I speak either language? No! I grew up here in Seattle and have lived here my entire life. In fact, I only recently got a passport and haven’t ever traveled outside of the US, Canada or Mexico.

Question #2- What is your favorite iPhone app?

I’m not sure I can choose just one! I’m a sucker for social media, so Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest are must haves for me.

Question #3- You post many pictures of your Starbucks drinks on Instagram. Which ones are your favorite?

I love this question! Here’s my favorite drinks at the moment: Iced Nonfat Black and White Mocha, Iced Nonfat Caramel Macchiato with extra caramel, Iced Nonfat Pumpkin Spice Chai and Iced Green Tea Lemonades. Once the weather, all but the last drink can easily be made into hot drinks and will taste just as delicious. Oh, can I add the Starbucks app as a favorite to the question above? I can easily reload my card and I’ve used the locate a nearby Starbucks option more times than I care to admit.

Question #4- You seem very happy and bubbly. What five words would you use to describe yourself?

Great question! I hate to admit that I’m not always bubbly, but I’m happy that you get this impression of me! Let’s see, I would choose: genuine, thoughtful, creative, generous and kind.

Now I’m going to ask my close friends and relatives what words they would describe for me! *wink*

Question #5- Is your favorite color really pink?

If you asked me couple years ago, I would have said yes without hesitation. Now, I’m totally in love with aqua and coral and if I’m being honest, they have surpassed my love of pink. Not to fret, I’m still very much a pink lover.

borderThis was such a fun feature to do- I loved all of the questions you sent my way. If you have more questions, feel free to leave it below or ask it anonymously at http://ask.fm/prettypinkposh. I just may do another one of these sometime down the road!

Thanks for spending some time with me today. I hope those of you who are in the US have a great rest of your holiday weekend!

On the Wish List- August Edition

wishlist_augustDoes anyone else feel like companies are upping up their game and releasing even more amazing products? Just when I feel like I’m at a comfortable place and don’t need or want anything else in my craft studio, a new release happens and I’m awe struck and looking for a money tree to pop up somewhere on our property.

This month I have a little mixture of stamp sets, inks and products and I have to confess, some of them are on their way to me right this moment. In fact, they should be here today! See? I couldn’t just keep these items in my cart, I had to checkout! Goodness gracious….I think I need a blindfold….or more self control.

Feel free to leave multiple questions here, ask me on any of my social media sites, or you can ask anonymously on this link: http://ask.fm/prettypinkposh. I’ll pull some of the most popular and frequently asked questions and bring them together for this post. Bombard me with questions, I’m READY! :)

Neon Fresh Cut Florals

Hold onto your seats….I’m actually posting a card that wasn’t created for my challenge! As many of you know, I’ve been going through a slew of health issues so my energy level and moments of not feeling sick have been very few and far between. Thankfully, I recently had a doctor visit which may be the final piece in the puzzle and part of that was getting on some new supplements. Crossing my fingers they kick in soon so I can start crafting again!

I was hoping to do an update on Friday, but when I had the opportunity to spend a few nights with my one month old twin “nephews” who are here from the east coast, everything else was pushed down the list. I’m head over heels in love with these sweet little guys and I have no regrets about pushing everything else to the wayside for those precious few days I got to spend with them.

Okay, now onto my card for today. You may want to pull out your sunglasses, because I pulled out my NEON inks and did all sorts of color layering with them. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’m in love with neon colors right now. These bright colors never cease to bring a smile to my face and I have a feeling I’ll be pulling them out for quite a while. I got to pull out my WPlus9 Fresh Cut Floral set and dies and had fun seeing which neon colors layered well together.

prettypinkposh_neon1a

I wanted to go super simple with my card layout so these bright flowers would take the spotlight. I must say, I totally love the simple black/ white colors with these bright pops of colors and created another card similar to it {which you’ll see another day}.

prettypinkposh_neon1b

So, what do you think? Are you loving the simple black/ white colors with the bright pops of color? I hope so! Also, what do you think of the color layering? I had so much fun seeing what new colors came from layering these brights together and can’t wait to do it again soon!

Pink Lemonade Funfetti Cupcakes

Pink-Lemonade-Cupcakes-1Hi friends! I am so excited to be back with you on Mondays, sharing a delicious {and easy!} sweet treat recipe. It’s been such a whirlwind, as I’m sure many of you can relate, and in all the craziness of these past few days, I had just enough time to whip up these easy peasy Pink Lemonade Funfetti Cupcakes!

These are perfect for end of summer celebrations, first day of school sweets, or just to brighten your day!

Sprinkles + Pink Lemonade = a refreshing sweet and summery treat!

Pink Lemonade Funfetti Cupcakes
Prep time: 30 mins
Cook time: 22 mins
Total time: 52 mins
Serves: 24
Ingredients
  • 1 box vanilla cake mix
  • 1/2 c. sprinkles (I used pink, white, and red)
  • 2 Crystal Light Pink Lemonade drink mix packs (not the individual servings, but the ones that make a large amount)
  • 3/4 c. softened butter
  • 4 c. powdered sugar
  • 3 tbsp. almond milk (or regular)
  • Cupcake Liners
  • Straws
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to temperature according to the box.
  2. Prepare the mix, as directed.
  3. Add in 1 packet of pink lemonade mix and the sprinkles into the batter. Stir well.
  4. Divide batter into cupcake pans.
  5. Bake until cupcakes spring back to the touch.
  6. Let cupcakes cool on wire racks.
  7. For icing, combine butter, lemon extract, and remaining pack of pink lemonade mix.
  8. Add 1 cup powdered sugar and 1 tbsp. milk.
  9. Mix well.
  10. Repeat this process until you have achieved the desired consistency. I used 4 cups of powdered sugar and 3.5 tablespoons of milk to achieve a thick icing that has strong peaks and won’t wilt.
  11. Frost cupcakes.
  12. Top with sprinkles and a small piece of straw to add even more cuteness!

Giveaway!

This month has been full of excitement, prizes and all sorts of fun. In keeping with the theme, I have another giveaway to share with you all and I will admit I’ve been brought back to my childhood in this post. For those who have little girls in your life, you all are going to LOVE this sponsor and her sweet products.

Do you remember growing up having those pretty hair bows in your hair? My mom used to do all three of our girls hair in braids and included clips and bows. While I didn’t always appreciate it at the time (mostly because my hair was unruly and it hurt when she brushed it), I now love looking at the pictures with the pretty hair accessories.

I recently was introduced to Turnip Creations, an Etsy site that has all sorts of headbands and hair clips. As soon as the pictures popped up on the screen, I was all smiles. The colors choices, the pretty designs and just the whole idea of getting to doll up the little girls in your life, I was so giddy that I was going to be able to see these products first-hand and do a giveaway for all of you!

headband_giveawaySince I don’t have any little girls of my own, I reached out to one of my close friend and asked if her girls would be willing to model these pretty hair accessories. I’ve known these girls from the day they were born and I even lived with and babysat the older one for a short time. These girls are precious to me and I adore when they surprise me at work with hugs and chatter. In addition, they make perfect little models!

Now that you’ve seen just two of these cute hair accessories, I’m sure you want to get some of your own! The lovely owner of Turnip Creations has offered up a $25 gift certificate to her shop and the winner will also get free shipping on that order!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Now if you want to stock up on these cute hair accessories, I have a 15% off coupon code to share! These are so reasonably priced already, but an extra savings never hurts! These would make such adorable presents for any little girl in your life!

headband_couponBe sure to take a peek at Turnip Creations and all of the cute products. Thanks for stopping by and spending some time with me today. I’m hoping to be back tomorrow as it’ll be a big day for me- it marks the one year mark of my accident and I have an update to share.
