Cute Stitched Bugs

Hello! Christina here. I love woodland-inspired card designs, and today I’m sharing another one, this time showcasing the Stitched Bugs Dies. These cuties are must-haves for summertime crafting, and they will easily transition into our fall designs, which is right around the corner. This card has a hint of fall with oak leaves and acorns, but with a simple “hello” greeting, it’s perfect for any time of year.

I started this A6-sized card by creating the tree trunk base first. Using woodgrain kraft  cardstock, I trimmed the base panel to measure 4.5 x 6.25 inches. Then I trimmed another piece of woodgrain cardstock to 4.25 x 6.25 inches (slightly thinner than the base panel) and die-cut three small circles from it to be cubbies for the Stitched Bugs.

I added shading to the edges of both panels with brown inks, and before popping up the cubby panel onto the base panel with foam tape, I added brown cardstock to the base panel to be visible through the round cubbies. I kind of wish I would have just kept the woodgrain cardstock behind the cubbies, but I think it still turned out pretty cute. Before moving on, I attached the finished tree trunk base to a top-fold card base. 

Next, I die-cut and assembled all the elements to complete my scene. I started with colored cardstocks and added shading with darker coordinating ink colors. I used pearls for the eyes of these cuties and added a white gel pen detail to the ladybug’s cheeks, the eyes of the ants, and the acorns. With everything assembled, I arranged the die-cuts on my base panel and secured them with either glue or foam squares. I tucked the bugs into their cubbies along with some greenery and then added more greenery and a few flowers outside the cubbies. I added ants crawling up the tree and acorns falling down from the treetop. I combined the small “hello” word die with a heat-embossed subsentiment to finish up my design.
