Birthday Slimline Card

Hello crafty friends, Marine here, I’m happy to be back on the blog with this colorful birthday themed slimline card showcasing the adorable Birthday Dogs & Cats and the amazing Alphabet Candles. As very often, I found my color palette inspiration in the Pretty Pink Posh shaker beads, and more precisely in the Party Time shaker beads mix that I just adore!

I started off by stamping the images on 110lb Neenah solar white cardstock using an alcohol marker friendly black ink. I used the matching dies to cut them all, and colored everything using my Ohuhu markers in reds, pinks, greens and blues for the Alphabet Candles, balloons and presents, and in neutrals for the cute Birthday Dogs & Cats.

To go with my colorful images, I wanted to create a matching background, so I cut an 8,5 x 3,5 inches slimline panel out of Strathmore bristol smooth cardstock, and covered the whole panel with spun sugar oxide ink first. Next I added a fun pattern using the Wavy Stripes stencil along with seedless preserves, worn lipstick, lumberjack plaid, lucky clover, mowed lawn and salty ocean oxide inks. I splattered water all over my panel and dried it with a paper towel. I mixed copic opaque white ink with water, and used a slim brush to add more splatters to my panel, and then I did the same with black soot oxide ink and with fossilized amber distress spritz for a touch of gold.

Next I created three smaller panels. I cut three Eyelet Rectangles out of Strathmore bristol smooth cardstock, masked the scalloped edges off on each panel, and colored them with spun sugar oxide ink. And to bring more interest to each panel, I added a word pattern using the Birthday Words stencil along with worn lipstick oxide ink. I splattered water on each panel and used a paper towel to dry them, and I mixed copic opaque white ink with water and used my slim brush again to add more splatters to my small panels.

Before attaching everything to my Wavy Stripes panel, I white heat embossed “Surprise” from Birthday Dogs & Cats on blue cardstock, “It’s party time” from Sentiment Strips Birthday on red cardstock, and I trimmed both sentiments using a Sentiment Strips die. And then I stuck everything to my slimline panel, starting with the three Eyelet Rectangles using 1mm foam tape, and then the images and sentiment banners using 1mm and 2mm foam squares.

To finish my card, I added highlights and details to the images using a white gel pen, applied glossy accents to the balloons and cherries on the cupcakes to make them shine, and white blizzard nuvo drops to the candle flames to make them sparkle. And that’s it! I love how bright and festive this card turned out, and I hope you like it too.

Thanks so much for stopping by, and see you next time!

  1. I thought this was a gift wrapped in wrapping paper at first. This is absolutely beautiful, fun, and vibrant. The background ties in nicely to all the focal points and I’m amazed. Looks like a fun scene and would be awesome as gift wrap too! Show stopper!!
