Technique: Smooshed Oxides & Alcohol Lift Video

Hi everyone! Laura here and I’m excited to share a couple of projects for Pretty Pink Posh using some new Tim Holtz goodies!

Watch the video above  I  Watch the video in HD on YouTube

For my first project I created a background using Alcohol inks in the colors Stream, Limeade & Sunshine Yellow. I applied the inks using onto Yupo paper and then using the Tim Holtz Alcohol Lift ink pad I stamped images from the Wild Rose stamp set to create this gorgeous background.

I created a window opening in the background using one of the Scallop Circle dies. For the focal image I used the adorable Koala Friends stamp set, which I colored with Copics. To finish it off I added an embossed sentiment from the Love Sentiments set.

For my next project I did one of my favorite ink smooshing techniques using a few of the new Tim Holtz Distress Oxide ink colors. Using a small piece of acetate I smooshed Tumbled Glass, Crushed Olive, Mowed Lawn, Mustard Seed & Ripe Persimmon onto watercolor paper. I flicked a bit of white liquid ink onto the smooshed background for more interest. After the panel was completely dry I die cut it using the Stitched Notes die.

For the images I used the adorable School Friends stamp set and colored them with Copics. To finished it off I embossed a sentiment from the Friends Forever set.

I hope you enjoyed this fun, inky tutorial. Thanks so much to Paulina for having me! Hope you all have a wonderful day!

  1. Love the Panda card! Great technique, love the layering of inks, leaves over the greens!

  2. These two cards are adorable ! I love pandas and to my point of view nobody is too old to receive such a lovely panda card, at least I’m not and it’s a long, long time I finished school – LOL !

    1. I have the Alcohol Lift-Ink sitting on my desk, it’s next on my list to work with. I loved both cards. That alcohol lift ink is absolutely incredible. Who knew you’d ever be able to obtain such beautiful designs lifting alcohol inks off paper? My kiddies are grown, but the back to school card is just too darn cute. Thanks Laura for all you do for our community. You always, always brighten my day!

  3. Great cards Laura! You probably already know you can make a second card with the ink that is lifted off the paper by the alcohol lift ink. Instead of wiping it off the stamp, stamp it onto another piece of cardstock.

  4. Love both background techniques. That sweet koala stamp is a must-have!

  5. The koalas are so cute! Loved the smooshed colors, they look so cool!

  6. Super Adorable cards Laura!!! And yes give it to your 17 year old!!!!

  7. Your cards are so cute! I love everything about the Koala card. You’re making me want to try Alcohol inks now- BTW, the wax paper is a great idea! I think you should give your 19 year-old son that card. I still send my 21 year-old son cute cards like this and he still likes them.

  8. So fun! That alcohol ink background made me want to jump in right away.

  9. Laura, I haven’t been quite a successful with this alcohol ink Lift-Off project as you but we’re working on it, LOL. I’m wondering if you use the felt applicator or the foam applicator. Everything I see points to Feld but I just thought I’d ask it could be that one extra I’m missing haha. Thanks for your help.
