Tutorial: Metallic Watercolors
Good morning my sparkly Pretty Pink Posh friends!
Here is a video I filmed testing them out. I first tried them on plain old 110 lb black cardstock and watercolor paper – but then moved on to testing them OVER the TOP of another watercolor wash in a few deeper colors, and then over some 110 lb white cardstock with some distress inks applied. It was fun seeing how they worked in each application – and this helped me get some ideas of how to use them more in the future!
At the end of the video, I created a couple of watercolor brushed backgrounds – then decided I ought to use them on a card, right? :)
I put together some little umbrella’s by heat embossing the top of the umbrella’s from Rainy Days stamp set in white on vellum, then die cutting them as well as the rest of the pieces from gold cardstock using the coordinating Rainy Days Dies. I carefully glued them together with a bit of sturdy glue and let them dry.
I did some heat embossed sentiments on a strip of black cardstock and vellum, then attached them, and the umbrella’s to my background.
Once the cards were together, I decided something was still missing, so I added some small Scallop circles and a few Sparkling Clear sequins to finish them off! Here is a closer look at each of them – and that black one was HARD to photograph!
WOW!! I How stunning are those metal shimmer colors? Really like how they look on dark & light paper. Thanks a million for the samples…love the look!
The watercolor wash background on black is beautiful. They really pop against the black.
So beautiful!!!!
Love your fun video showing different ideas to use these metallics! I will have to try some of this. Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for the great comparison on these beautiful gold shimmer paints. I decided to add a set to my order after viewing your tutorial.
I love the metallic look. Awesome touch and the brush streaks really makes an awesome look. Love both cards and great to see the difference between the light and dark. Awesome.
Hi Paulina, how do you clean the brush? I assume just water since Gansai is water based.. Absolutely looooove this technique. Will definitely be buying Gansai and a wider brush.
Yes, you can have a damp paper towel, wash cloth or baby wipe nearby to brush off the excess color. :)
Are you kidding the gold tone watercolors are gorgeous! They will be mine soon. Thank you.
WOW
ABSOLUTELY STUNNING cards and EXCITING tutorial Heather!!!
… I thought that I needed to get some of these, NOW I KNOW I DO :)
Beautiful! Love these simple, elegant cards! Thank you for the tutorial, Heather!
I really love this card. Would love to have the products to make it.
