Spooky & Colorful Halloween Card

Hello, crafty friends! Justin here, and today I’m sharing a bold and colorful Halloween card featuring three brand-new products from the August Release: the Boo Word Shaker Dies, Decorative Pumpkin Dies, and Halloween Silhouettes Background Stencil. I had so much fun combining bright Halloween colors with ink blending, paper piecing, and plenty of dimension to create this festive design!

Ink Blended Die Cuts

For the pumpkin, I started with orange cardstock and used ink blending to add deeper shading around the edges. This simple technique adds dimension and gives the pumpkin a more finished, dimensional appearance.

I used the same approach on the green letters from the Boo Word Shaker Dies, blending darker ink around the edges to create a subtle gradient. Ink blending directly onto colored cardstock is a great way to customize your die cuts and create additional depth without needing multiple shades of cardstock.

Paper-Piecing the Decorative Pumpkin

One of my favorite details on this card is the Decorative Pumpkin Dies. I die cut the pumpkin from multiple colors of cardstock and then paper-pieced the individual decorative elements back into the pumpkin.

This technique is a fun way to get even more versatility from your dies while creating a colorful, detailed focal point. You can easily swap out the cardstock colors to create a completely different look!

Creating the Spooky Background

For the background panel, I used the Halloween Silhouettes Background Stencil over colored cardstock and blended ink through the stencil. Working over colored cardstock creates a subtle tone-on-tone effect while allowing the silhouetted Halloween images to stand out.

To add even more interest, I splattered the background with Pearl Shimmer and Black Ink. The shimmer adds a little sparkle while the splatters give the background additional texture and movement.

Adding Dimension

To finish the card, I used foam tape behind both the decorative pumpkin and the BOO sentiment. This creates separation between the layers and helps the focal elements really pop against the background.

The combination of ink blending, paper piecing, stenciling, splattering, and dimensional layering makes this card festive while still keeping the design relatively simple to recreate.
