Happy Halloween Mug
Hello crafty friends, it’s June here! Today I’ll be making a card using products from the new Halloween release along with some older items.
When I saw the new release, I had no idea what to create with first. Halloween is my favorite holiday and I felt inspired by so many of the new products! I decided to use the Spooky Mug Additions first because there were so many different dies to pick from. I played around with some of the combinations before settling on my favorite combo using the cauldron shaker die as the focus. A shaker is always a good idea right?
I cut the mug from the original Winter Mug Dies out of black cardstock and used the cauldron die to make my shaker window. I also cut out the ghosts, a lolly, a tiny candy, the stars and the moon. I cut them all out of white cardstock so I could add color using ink later, when I decided on a color palette.
I based my color palette on the new Spooktacular Mix. I tried adding all colors to the card. I used orange and pink for the background and green and purple for the inside of my shaker. The colors of Distress Oxide I used were Dried Marigold, Worn Lipstick, Twisted Citron and Wilted Violet. I also splattered some Abandoned Coral and Carved Pumpkin that I thinned out with water onto the background panel, followed by even more splatters of thinned out white acrylic paint.
To add even more detail, I used the Pierced Stars Plate Die on my background. I cut it a bit smaller so it could fit perfectly inside the largest Eyelet Rectangle Die.
When putting together my shaker, I decided on the colors for my white pieces. I blended a slight gradient on each piece for some added interest. I added gel pen details to some pieces and also added blush to the ghost(s) using Copic Markers. I only realized while writing this blog post that I forgot to add blush to the top ghost *facepalm* I don’t know how I missed that… But that’s okay, little mistakes just show that a card is handmade, right? And maybe only one ghost was blushing at the time?
For a sentiment, I just had to pick one from the new Halloween Corners stamp set. The set not only has cute images, but all 3 big sentiments have a matching die, which I love about Pretty Pink Posh’s scripted sentiments. I used the same shade of pink as my lolly and the pink in the shaker bits.
And that’s it for today! I absolutely love how colorful this card turned out. I love typical Halloween colors, but I love colors that aren’t as traditional even more. What do you think?
Happy crafting!
This is great! What a cool, “cute” spooky project!
