Friend Flower Background
Hello crafty friends, June here! Today I’m showcasing a new card I made using lots and lots of flowers.
I went into this without too much planning. I knew I wanted a card full of flowers, but I had no idea about my color palette or layout when starting. I started out by cutting 4 different flowers from the Floral Wreath Builder die set out of various colors of cardstock. I ended up with a lot of extra pieces I didn’t end up using on my card, so I might be able to make an extra project with them! Die cutting these took a while, but I loved having enough pieces on hand to play around with.

To give the flowers some dimension, I used a tiny blending brush to add a darker shade of ink to the center. I also added some gel pen dots along the stitch lines. The flowers from the die set come with their own centers to cut out, but to speed up the process I actually went for the eyes from the Build A Monster die set instead. These cut out 2 at a time in different sizes which speeded up the process a lot.
I chose a sentiment from the Friend Greetings stamp set to place my flowers around and stamped it using a dark turquoise shade to match the flowers. For the background, I used a lighter shade of blue and added splatters in the same darker shade. They’re barely visible, but you know I have to add some splatters whenever I can!

I played around with the layout of the flowers until I was satisfied with the look. I didn’t think about it too much, so is it perfectly balanced? Definitely not. But I had a lot of fun playing around without being too hard on myself. I know I can get a bit nitpicky, so I did my best to not overthink.
To add more interest to the card, I slightly curled up the edges of the petals. I did this by taking each petal in between my thumb and index finger and adding some pressure while ‘pulling’ on the petal. I popped up all of the flowers on a foam square for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the extra dimension looks really good, and secondly, foam dots can still be removed compared to glue, so it would make adjusting my flowers way easier if the placement was slightly off.

I also added foam tape to the sentiment so it didn’t get lost in between all those flowers. It’s a pretty small sentiment, so the flowers did feel a bit overpowering. That’s why in the end, I added an extra sentiment strip underneath it, but on top of the flowers. I used the ‘thinking of you’ from the Hummingbird Floral stamp set and embossed it in white onto some dark turquoise cardstock.
And that’s it for today! This card definitely felt a bit out of my comfort zone, but I’m so in love with the way it turned out! I think these floral dies are stunning so they definitely deserved their own card.
I hope to see you again soon, bye!
