Holly Jolly Christmas
Hello crafty friends, it’s June and I’m was excited about the Ornament Cover Plate when I first saw the holiday release, but so far I hadn’t made a card with it yet because there were so many other products that inspired me! So finally this week, I picked it up to make a card.
I wanted to use the cover plate in the way it was intended, by turning the circles into ornaments. I can’t wait to use this die all year round though, because without the ornament pieces it makes a perfect base for whatever other theme you may want to make a card for.
I came across a beautiful color palette on Pinterest the other day and it worked perfectly for an idea I had in mind, even though it’s far from a Christmas palette. It combined a bright ochre with a vintage pink, and it somehow reminded me of the colors I liked using back in the day when I still scrapbooked. I used a lot of bright pattern papers with vintage looking illustrations on it and that instantly gave me the art direction I wanted to go in.
I stamped my favorite of the Holiday Icons and colored them using my Copic markers. All the icon sets Pretty Pink Posh has released come with decorative circles, but I couldn’t quite find the right circle, so I grabbed the scalloped one from the Candy Treats Dies instead. That little stitching it has around its border reminds me of a doily, so it really fitted the theme I wanted to go for. I cut out 6 of these so I could place one in each ornament with an icon layered on top of it.
I completely covered my ornament panel using Squeezed Lemonade Distress Oxide. I used one of the Stacked Scallop Stencils and Mustard Seed Distress Oxide to create a subtle tone-on-tone look. I also blended a bit of this color on the sides of my panel. This stencil really gives me Christmas vibes, it reminds me of a garland so I think it fit nicely with the theme of my card. I also splattered some of the darker shade ink and thinned out white acrylic paint onto my panel to make it appear less plain.
To bring in that vintage pink color, I blended Victorian Velvet Distress Oxide on a piece of scrap paper and backed my ornament cover plate. I used 1mm foam tape to adhere my panel. I didn’t go for a shaker card this time, but I think it could’ve looked really cute now I look back at it!
To lean more into the vintage theme, I stamped the ornamental piece from the Winter Greetings Stamp Set 4 times to kind of make a border around my card. I also picked out a sentiment from the same set to go in the middle. I stamped both of these using the same Victorian Velvet ink.
I hope you enjoyed reading about my card and I hope you’ve been having a wonderful December so far filled with lots of holiday cardmaking. See you again soon, bye!
