Family Game Night #2
I’ve been meaning to do this post for quite some time….it’s a sequel to the popular Family Game Night post I did last year. If you enjoy game night with family or friends, you’ll enjoy this post and the previous one.
I know it’s so easy to crash in front of the tv at night, or have the kiddos get on their electronic devices nowadays. Honestly, I don’t have an issue with these things, but these aren’t things that will build memories or they’ll look back on and have fond memories of. Some of my fondest memories are of the late night games we used to play- no electronics or cell phones, just time together.
Side note: with Christmas right around the corner, this list might come in handy for your game loving recipients!

Question: what are your favorite board/ card games to play with your family and friends? We are always looking to add to our (growing) collection of games- we would love to hear your favorites!
Thank you for your recommendations. I totally agree with you, it’s such a pity that many family nowadays think they spend their evening ‘together’, but actaually everyone is looking into his smartphone or ipad.
Our favourite board game at the moment is ‘Qwirkle’.
I love Ticket to Ride! Our favorites for when friends come over are Apples to Apples, We Didn’t Playtest this Game, Munchkin, Firefly, and when the little one goes to bed we pull out Cards Against Humanity.
Thanksgiving is a HUGE game night for us!! After dinner we play Pictionary, Catch Phrase, Apples to Apples… followed by dessert and then more games!! When I was a little girl (LONG time ago!!!) we played Racko ALL of the time on camping trips!! Monopoly was a big hit with our son and his friends in high school. My hubby & I often joined in on the fun. When someone ran out of money they would barter with pizza rolls or cookies…whatever they had that night LOL!!!
What a fun post! We play scattegories, it’s so fun to see what people come up with. But we are really big on scrabble my seven year old loves it!
A friend recently introduced me to Dutch Blitz and I loved it! Planning to get it for my kiddos for the holidays:)

I have to agree with you that these days families do not always find the time to share together because of the electronics and personal devices. Your idea of a family game night is just perfect! I think I am going to have a family game night with my family because it does matter when you are all together as it will be those memories looked back upon as the kids grow older and think back. We only play games on special occasions, birthday parties, New Year’s etc but i’m going to try and incorporate it maybe once a month. Our fun games that we like to play are Life, card games like Uno and Texas Hold Em’, Sorry, and Clue.

I haven’t seen “Ticket to Ride”. I will have to check it out. Our family definitely plays a lot of games when we all get together. Some of our favorites card games are “Quiddler” and “Five Crowns”. We also love “Bananagrams”, “Moods”, “Apples to Apples”(both regular and junior), “Settlers of Catan”, “Wits and Wagers”, “Scrabble”, “Wise and Otherwise”, and “Imagine If…” We have more, but those are the ones that I can think of off the top of my head. :D
Fun list! We have Dutch Blitz and Scattergories.

Thanks for posting this list, Paulina. Every year we try a new game at Thanksgiving. Usually cards. Something the whole family can play. I’ve been stumped at what to get this year. I think Rack-o or Dutch Blitz might be just the trick.
We just played Hanafuda when we visited family in Hawaii. Very easy to learn, and a game is pretty short, unless you decide to keep score. HanafudaHawaii.com makes a colorful version of the Hanafuda cards, and their site illustrates the card suites and bonus point combinations, called “yakus”. They just recently came out with Hanafuda cards in the standard playing card version.
We also played Taboo, guys against girls. What a hoot! So wonderful to hear games are a big part of your family gatherings. Dutch Blitz looks interesting!
